3 NATIONAL BIRD CONSERVATION
ORGANIZATIONS WORTH HIGHLIGHTING
There are many national conservation organizations working hard to protect our lands, waters, flora, and fauna. There are, however, far fewer focused just on birds. I’d like to highlight 3 national bird conservation organizations here. They’re notable and worthy of our support, both philosophically and financially. These 3 organizations focus almost solely on birds and bird conservation: the American Bird Conservancy, the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, and the National Audubon Society. They’re not identical in what they tackle, which is better for our birds and the habitats they depend upon. In my mind, each serves slightly different niches to avoid redundancy. For instance, the Cornell Lab produces an amazing array of free information, data gathering, and provides all sorts of tools and technology used by observers in the field. The American Bird Conservancy advocates at the highest levels for better laws, better protections, and sound solutions to protect birds that each of us can rally behind. The National Audubon Society supports nature centers, especially in urban centers where people need to learn about birds because they are often detached from wild places. If you love birds and want to help with conserving them, dig into one or more of these conservation organizations to see how you can help. Do it for the owls.
