BIRDS AND WINDOWS JUST DON’T MIX
Birds and windows simply don’t get along, and they haven’t gotten along since we started peppering the landscape with buildings and homes. Birds and their pea-sized brains do not know that the image they see is actually a reflection from a window, whether it’s a reflection of themselves staring back at them or a reflection of the sky, clouds, and trees. To them, it looks perfectly safe to fly through. “Boom” is the sound often heard from the bird who never evolved with such a vertical barrier obstructing their air space.
Many birds that hit the window, even if they just appear to be stunned, may fly off but will likely die later from severe internal injuries. With an estimated one billion birds dying from flying into windows each year in the U.S., such deaths are one of the top killers of birds. The good news is that you can do something about it at your home and office.
