FISH, SWIM, AND PLAY FROM 50 YARDS AWAY!
This is the slogan to remember to give certain birds the space they need — especially along the coast. Keep your distance while birds are nesting, roosting, or resting, especially on rookery islands.
When birding, photographing, fishing, or boating near a nesting island, keep in mind that this is a fragile nursery for many birds. Adults often shade unhatched eggs and half-feathered nestlings from the hot sun. If you flush the adults away, the eggs or nestlings could get overheated or exposed to predation. For more info, see sanctuaries.noaa.gov.
Walking your dog on the beach seems fun and harmless, but consider using a leash instead of letting Fido chase through flocks of exhausted shorebirds or waterbirds. During migration, some of those resting shorebirds could have just made a nonstop flight of several hundred miles or longer. They need to rest and refuel just like we do after a long journey.
In summary, respect the space needed between you and certain birds especially during sensitive times. So remember the slogan: “Fish, swim, and play from 50 yards away!”Order your Owl Shack HERE
