PARTICIPATE IN A BIOBLITZ NEAR YOU
There’s a rich diversity of species around us, both flora and fauna. One way to learn more about them is to participate in what’s known as a BioBlitz. A BioBlitz is an event that focuses on finding and identifying as many species as possible, whether plant, animal, fungi, or more, that occur in a specific area over a short period of time. Groups of scientists, naturalists, and volunteers conduct these intensive field events usually within a 24-hour period which includes nighttime for owls. Some parks and refuges, possibly near you, host BioBlitz events with experts in attendance. This is a great way to learn some of the critters around you and to participate in collecting basic information like “what on earth occurs here.” For more info, see inaturalist.org.
If no BioBlitz is scheduled near you, contact your nearby park, refuge, nature center, university, or the like and organize one. Knowledge of the local flora and fauna, especially which ones are native or not, will enrich you and your community. Do it for the owls.Order your Owl Shack HERE
