READING YOUR FAVORITE NATURE MAGAZINE ISN’T ENOUGH

Owl Shack - scops owl Christmas

If you contribute to a conservation organization in order to receive their colorful newsletter or magazine, that means you enjoy nature and the great outdoors. Consider, however, the cost to the organization of producing that print-material and postage. Your membership fee might be covering just the cost of paper and shipping, and not actually helping to protect wildlife and wild places. Consider donating additional funds to that organization in order to help fund their programs that protect plants and animals. Depending on which organization you belong to, contributing more money often means you are part of a team and not just a magazine reader. To maximize your gift, seek out organizations that put most of their funds toward conservation programs, and not toward freebees to attract members. The website www.charitywatch.org has that information. Get more deeply involved in wildlife conservation and habitat preservation. Do it to feel good — and do it for the owls.
