TAKE A CHILD TO A NATURE CENTER,
REFUGE, OR PARK IN SEARCH OF NATURE
Are you tired of seeing your kids or grandkids glued to their electronic devices? Do everyone a favor and take them to a nature center, refuge, or park in search of nature. Fresh air and exploring these sorts of sites are good for the body, mind, and soul. If you need gift ideas for children in your life, consider a pair of binoculars, fishing pole, plant ID guidebook, or hiking boots to encourage them to keep exploring the great outdoors. Viewing nature is soothing and opens a child’s mind to other things around them especially their plant and animal neighbors. Most American children can identify dozens of symbols, signs, and logos for businesses and products around them, but they can’t identify 10 species of plants and animals in their own backyard. Take them to a park, refuge, or nature center and let them get to know some other species around them. The 2005 book Last Child in the Woods: Saving our Children from Nature-Deficit Disorder by Richard Louv is a must-read on this topic and can be examined here richardlouv.com/books/last-child. Introduce children around you to nature around them. You both will be happier and wiser for it. Do it for the owls.
